Clinical Effect of Naproxen


Abstract
Naproxen is a new agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and was developed by Syntex Pharmaceuticals Limited.
It was designed to have anti-inflammatory activity with low toxicity.
Double blind cross-over study of Naproxen 500mg and Aspirin 4 gm was performed on 50 patients of rheumatoid arthritis and other orthopedic diseases accompaning pain who visited the department of orthopedic Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital from May to July in 1975 and obtained following results;
1. 500mg of Naproxen had an equivalent effect of 4 gm of Aspirin in anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity.
2. Naproxen had fewer side effects than Aspirin and the difference being highly significant at P<0.01. 3. Naproxen administration was convenient and well tolerated by the patients.
